It feels like we have just settled into Term 2 but our College is a hive of activity with NAPLAN and Year 12 ESTs now completed and preparations for senior examinations well underway. In amongst these important milestones, I enjoy hearing about the many activities the students have been involved with such as incursions, excursions, house activities and guest speakers. Since our last Enews we have…

Year 7-9 students have all been busy working on completing set tasks and in-class tests, while the Year 10 -12 young ladies have been working on revision for their forthcoming exams in weeks eight and nine. We encourage you to contact your daughter’s teachers if you have any concerns regarding academic progress and her relevant Year Team Leader if you have any general issues you’d like to discuss. Earlier this term, we held the Dodgeball house event. This involved a small number of students from each year group competing for house points. Even though we had it during COVID restrictions, the students who participated did a fantastic job gaining valuable points for their house. It was beautiful to see the determination on some of the young ladies faces while competing in the Interhouse Athletics Carnival. Similarly, the number of girls participating in events and gaining valuable house points was also very pleasing. Despite a change of date due to bad weather, many parents were still able to come along to watch and cheer on their daughters. Results will be announced soon, as will training schedules for the ACC Athletics Carnival. The Year 12 Leavers tops arrived just in time for the girls to be able to wear them for the afternoon at the carnival which certainly made for much excitement. The young ladies have gotten into the routine of wearing their socks or tights as part of the Winter school uniform. It has been good seeing many skirt lengths abiding to the uniform policy too. However, some girls still need a friendly reminder about this . We are still waiting on the new blazers to arrive – fingers crossed they arrive sooner rather than later. Just a couple of friendly reminders: • All students (unless they have training before school) must come to school wearing their Winter uniform. Students have enough time to change into their sports uniform at the start of their lesson. • Students are to lock their mobile into lockers from 8:35 until 3:23. If you need to contact your daughter during this time, please go through the correct channels, call Student Reception. Many girls caught with their phone say that they are waiting for a message from parents . • We are also concerned to hear that phones are being used by some students who are filming in the bathrooms and placing the videos on social media sites. The College has spoken to the students about phone etiquette and would appreciate it if parents can also discuss the dangers of phones used to film in places such as in the toilets. Time flies, and we are now in the midst of term 2. Students are beautifully dressed in their Winter uniform to keep them warm. One of the highlights so far this term was the Mother’s Day event. It was such a wonderful day to spend time with the special person who gives us unconditional love. Year 5 Green did a fabulous narration from the book “Love You Forever” by Robert Munch. We then had a beautiful spread of cakes and tea. Another significant event that took place was the Interhouse Cross Country. We were blessed with glorious sunshine. What was more incredible was the show of collegiality as students cheered and supported one another. Learning and lots of knowledge was evident as we witnessed colourfully decorated spacecraft in Kindergarten. Students used their imagination and creativity to make them. Pre-Primary wrote the story of “Dear Zoo” by Rod Campbell. They also learned to innovate the story by changing the characters. The Year 6s learned about plants and the types of soil they need to grow. They experimented by planting seeds in varied conditions. Through their investigative skills, they were able to determine the specific earth that plants need to flourish. Prayers and Faith are still the main focus in our school. Year 6s attended mass along with the Lesmurdie Parish community. We also had two student leaders who represented the school at the mass to celebrate 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia. As for sports, by the time this newsletter is published, our interschool swimmers will hopefully be beaming with pride as they represent the College at the interschool swimming carnival. After school is a busy time, especially at the pick-up points, we advise parents to park their cars in the designated areas. Kindly follow the queue and pick up your child only from the given location. This system is to ensure the traffic flows with ease and the students’ safety. We would also like to thank parents who supported the school, whether volunteering for events or being partners in their learning. God Bless. Anne Tan Head of Primary

Boarding News
We celebrated National Boarding Week recently with a variety of activities including an invite a teacher to dinner evening and a day girl sleep over. Sharing the boarding experience gave our girls an opportunity to introduce others to boarding life and by all accounts they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It has certainly been a busy few weeks with the girls busily undertaking various winter sports and extracurricular activities. It has also been very pleasing seeing the girls sign up fir a range of different weekend activities, including those run by our very own talented housemothers who are all very “crafty and creative.” I am concerned that increasingly, we are seeing a number of girls not join us in the dining room for dinner, preferring to consume junk food after school instead. Whilst I understand that the occasional junk food binge will happen, I am worried that for some girls, the amount of processed food they are eating is unhealthy. It is these same girls who are very hard to motivate out of their rooms making for a very sedate lifestyle exacerbated by poor food choices. I encourage parents to discuss these topics with their daughters during the forthcoming long weekend. Annamaria Cream Head of Boarding
