From the PrincipalJuly 03, 2020
I write to you as we complete a most unusual, hopefully never to be repeated, Term! Despite the constant changes, our students and staff have risen to all the challenges and triumphed.
We returned to a ‘new’ normalcy and have been able to complete examinations, reports and Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews, albeit in a variety of new formats! Once again, we thank all of our families for the many emails and words in support of all the measures we have had to take in the protection of our students and staff whilst attending the College and in our Boarding Houses. As I write, we have entered Phase 4 and are awaiting Phase 5 upon our return to school next Term.
Our Term 3 calendar is still looking bare, but as restrictions continue to ease, we are looking forward to reintroducing the many varied activities and opportunities for our students. Do continue to read our communications next Term as we update you on events that will take place. Next Term we look forward to welcoming our parents back as attendees to our events.
The students and staff have earned a well-deserved break. As you are probably aware, our teachers spent the last holiday period preparing for remote learning, which we were advised to anticipate for Term 2. We sincerely hope that our staff will take the next two weeks to rest and spend some time on themselves!
I would like to thank Mrs Katrina Fiolo for her marvellous work as Acting Head of Primary throughout Semester 1. She certainly showed her adaptability as we coped with our COVID rules. We also thank Mrs Sharlene Willock for her great work as Acting Team Leader of Learning Differences. Mrs Fiolo will return to her role in the Learning Differences Team and Mrs Willock will continue to work in this Team and take on some PE classes next Term.
Ms Anne Tan will join us as Head of Primary from the commencement of Term 2. We look forward to welcoming her back to the St Brigid’s College family.
We farewell Mrs Chiappalone and Ms Trend as they commence Maternity Leave and wish them the very best as they await the birth of their babies. We thank Ms Caine for taking on the role of Team Leader, Health and Physical Education, and welcome Mr Cameron Greenley as a member of our HPE Team for Semester 2. We also wish Mrs Benedetta Heys a restful Term 3 on Long Service Leave. Ms Donatella Antoniazzi will join us next Term as Mrs Heys’ replacement.
As Catherine McAuley said to Claire Moore, “We should labour all day like the poor and have our rest and recreation after our work is finished.” Now that Term 2 is over, we wish all families a restful, happy time with family and friends over the break. Monday 20th July is a Staff Professional Development Day and we look forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday, 21st July.
