Our College has been a hive of activity in recent weeks, with absolutely no sign whatsoever, that the year was drawing to a close. I have been absolutely amazed at how much our students and staff have managed to achieve in the final part of the term. From swimming lessons to Retreats, leadership days, socials, Assemblies and end of year celebrations, we have certainly ended our 90th Anniversary on a spectacular note.  I must thank the staff (they too have busily been preparing reports and planning for 2020) for ensuring that our girls and boys made the most of the St Brigid’s Experience in all its forms.

Last week’s Afternoon Tea for College Helpers was a wonderful way to thank the many parent and friend volunteers who work so hard throughout the year to allow for so many experiences, both inside and outside the classroom, to reach fruition for our girls and boys.  Over 350 volunteers were involved at the College this year – whether it was supervising our youngest learners at Bush School, hanging art pieces in the gym or sizzling sausages at the College’s 90th Anniversary Fair, our community was enriched enormously by their selfless support.

I’m delighted to share with you all, that the combined total raised for our 90th Anniversary Fair and Art Exhibition was $25,000 – a wonderful effort made possible through the combined efforts of our parents, staff and students.

Our College community has been working together in recent weeks in so many ways to support the St Vincent de Paul Society Christmas Appeal. Donations of groceries and school supplies will be taken to the Parish Hall this weekend and Parish volunteers will package them into hampers for local families in need.

Through a variety of fundraising we have raised $2435.59 this year which has been sent to the St Vincent de Paul Society. As always the generosity of our staff, students and their families has been overwhelming.

Last week, a number of Orientation sessions took place for new students joining us in 2020, including 21 new boarding students and their families.  It was wonderful to see our own students assume the roles of “big sisters” supporting the new girls as they familiarised themselves with all aspects of the College

Thank you to all those families who joined us as we came together as a community at our annual Carols on the Green last night – it was a marvellous evening with perfect Summer Weather. Today, we celebrated our final Eucharist and marked the special event of our Year 6 students completing Primary education and moving on to secondary school.

Each year at this time, we farewell students moving from our College. We wish them, with their families, the very best of luck in the future, similarly we are saying goodbye to a number of staff and we thank them for their service and commitment to our school.

Nicola Lee, our Head of Junior School, who has been with us at the College in a variety of leadership roles for thirteen years, leave SBC to take up a Principalship in Beagle Bay. Nicola has been a gentle, guiding light to many in our school, both students and staff, and will be greatly missed by the entire College staff and community. A beautifully moving Assembly for Nicola, organised by Junior School staff and students, allowed the girls and boys to farewell her on Thursday in the College Gymnasium.

Cameron Greenley, Cristina McLennan, Liam Merigan, Margaret Mtambara, Victoria Pulford and Taymar Rowe also leave us and our best wishes go with each of them.

We would be very remiss if we did not acknowledge Rose White who has completed thirty years of loyal service to the College and who also leaves us at the end of the year. We also farewell Mrs Reta White and Mrs Ilona Auld as they take a year’s leave from our College.

I wish all members of the St Brigid’s community every grace and blessing for this coming Christmas period and I pray that the spirit of joy and promise lives in your own hearts at this special time. Enjoy relaxing times with family and friends and I look forward to the safe return of all our staff and students for another wonderful year of learning, fun, and adventure in 2020.
