Junior School NewsMay 14, 2019
Welcome back to Term Two and I hope everyone had an opportunity to relax and spend time with loved ones and celebrate Easter and ANZAC Day as a family. Wonderful to see all the children return reenergised and ready for the busy term ahead.
On the last day of Term One, the College community gathered together for Stations of the Cross. Students from the Junior School reverently led us through each Station as a way to commemorate and reflect on the last week of Jesus’ life on Earth. A very moving tribute and the children should be congratulated on the respectful way they participated. In the afternoon the students enjoyed showing off their ‘masterpieces’ during the Easter Hat Parade and many left for the holidays overjoyed with the prizes they won in the Easter Raffle. Thank you for all the generous donations and a special thank you to the parents who prepared the prizes for the raffle. All the money raised went to Caritas, and will certainly make a difference to the lives of many others.
As Term Two begins, it is important to revisit before school procedures. When students arrive in the morning, they should be seated outside their classroom, chatting with their friends, until the classroom doors open at 8:30am. Can I please ask for your cooperation with this matter, by reminding your children to be seated before 8:30am and following this school rule, as the safety of the children is always our number one priority.
All students should now be wearing their full Winter uniform and for the girls this includes black opaque tights and only green or gold hair accessories. Nail polish is not permitted and additional information regarding jewellery that can be worn is available on the St Brigid’s College webpage. https://sbcl.wa.edu.au/enrol/essentials/uniform/
Although the cooler weather is upon us, students are still required to wear their College hat when out at recess and lunch. A gentle reminder to ensure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name so misplaced clothing can be quickly reunited with their owner!
On Friday 3rd May the Junior School students joined together with the High School girls for another exhilarating Colour Run. The afternoon was action packed and the smiles on the children’s faces said it all. We were blessed with beautiful weather and it was such a positive way to start the term! Thank you to all our families who supported this important fundraiser for the College and I have no doubt that it will again be very successful.
CPSSA (Catholic Primary Schools Sports Association) Swimming Carnival
The Junior School interschool swimming squad returned from the CPSSA Swimming Carnival after enthusiastically competing in events all day. Congratulations to the team for the positive attitude displayed and for their commitment in striving for personal bests! The girls team proudly took out first place and combined with the huge effort from the boys, St Brigid’s Primary School came second overall, a fantastic achievement. Thank you to all the dedicated staff who prepared the students so rigorously.
Recently Commitment Masses were held at Our Lady of Lourdes for students intending to receive their First Holy Communion. We continue to keep all Sacramental candidates in our prayers as they prepare for Sacraments throughout the year.
NAPLAN Testing commences this week. In the Junior School, Year Three and Five students will complete NAPLAN assessments online this year, the only exception the Year Three Writing Test. NAPLAN provides parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests and do not replace ongoing assessments by teachers in regards to student performance.
In the lead up to Mother’s Day, a number of classes in our Early Years enjoyed events for mum’s and other significant women, to show their appreciation and to thank them for all the wonderful things they do. Mothers across the Junior School received handmade gifts and cards made so lovingly by their children.
Thank you for your ongoing support in the Junior School.
