Junior School News

The term has begun with great excitement as students throughout the Junior School have been involved in a number of sporting events. In Week 2, our Cross Country Team travelled to Perry Lakes Athletics Stadium and competed against 15 other schools. The students performed very well with our girls claiming 2nd place and the whole team placing 3rd overall out of 16 schools. Congratulations to all students involved in the training prior to the event and to the team who participated on the day. Our gratitude also goes out to our PE teachers who so ably trained our students.

Last week the Junior School House Athletics Carnival was a great success. All our students participated over a day and a half, with our pre- carnival events taking place on Thursday and our main carnival day on Friday. We were blessed with beautiful weather which added to the healthy competitive spirit and happy vibe throughout the day. Everyone should be congratulated for their tenacity, involvement and great sportsmanship. Our families provided fantastic support as volunteer helpers, cheerleaders and spectators. Thank you all!

A number of Year 3 students made their First Reconciliation last week under the guidance and support of their families, Father Michael and their teachers. We warmly welcome these students on their faith journey and congratulate them for making their Sacrament.

NAIDOC Week meant that our students were treated to a number of very special activities and experiences over the course of a week. Our Year 4 students were invited to share in the creation of a beautiful painting, our Kindy students experienced some dance lessons, there was face painting and Kangaroo Stew for sampling. Gina Williams exposed all our students to her excellent storytelling and song and we learnt the importance of keeping the language of Aboriginal people alive today so that it can continue into the future. It was a very important week of sharing in the culture of our first peoples.

Tonight we are holding our 90th Anniversary Arts Showcase where all our talent will be on show for families to enjoy. Congratulations to the many students who have been rehearsing and preparing for this wonderful night. Looking forward to seeing many of you there.

Look out also for information about the Junior School Parent Forum Disco Party to be held on 16th August in the College Gym. It should be a great evening for the children.

 Enjoy the term ahead.
