Head of Secondary

Term 1 has definitely flown by.

The young ladies have put in a lot of effort this term. not only with their school work but also with a variety of activities run by the college. These include celebrating Masses in year groups, ACC basketball and Swim squad training, Tennis competitions, Cross Country and river cruises with Mazenod to name just a few. In addition to this the young ladies supported Harmony Week events and raised money for Caritas.

Harmony week was acknowledged by students writing where their grandparents came from and then placing a sticker on the appropriate location on a map of the world. They also made chatter boxes with diversity challenges.

It was great to see a large number of Year 7 families attend the welcome picnic recently. This provided the parents the opportunity to meet other Year 7 parents and students. The students also took their parents on a tour of their classroom and locker.

We ran a Triple P Seminar ‘Raising Responsible Teenagers’ and it was great to see the number of parents who attended as well as read the feedback we received from the presenters. We are looking at asking them back later in the year to present “Getting Teenagers to Connect”.

The students had the opportunity to gain points for their House by participating in the recent Interhouse Cross County. The beautiful weather was certainly a welcome addition to the day.

The Year 9s had a busy second last week of term. They held their retreat at Mercedes College as their base. From the college, the girls toured St Mary’s Cathedral where they joined the parishioners at the midday mass and also undertook a visit to the Mercy Heritage building.

They also attended their first social with Mazenod – an evening cruise on the Swan River. The girls enjoyed the views of the Perth along the river heading towards Fremantle port with a range of music that had them up dancing at the front of the Ferry.

This term, the Year Team Leaders have provided students with suggestions and strategies to assist in their organisation, using the College Organiser, and creating a study plan. Hopefully, they have set up their student plan either on their laptop or a poster on the wall near where they do their study in the evenings.

The girls have received notification about SEQTA. I encourage you to explore SEQTA with your daughter so that you can all familiarise yourselves with its features which include assessment schedules, notifications regarding assessments from teachers, course outlines and reports.

A friendly reminder about excess jewellery and the use of a mobile phone while at school: students need to make sure they remove their piercings before they come to school, and their phones need to be locked in their lockers from 8:35 till 3:23. Students who have their phones on them will have them confiscated and collected from Student Reception. If you need to contact your daughter, please call Student Reception, and if your daughter needs to contact you, she will also call you from Student Reception.

Term Two is Winter School uniform, which has slightly changed this year. The students can wear either stockings or green college socks. However, they must wear their stockings for formal occasions.
Term commences Tuesday 20th April with an ANZAC Service.
