Term 4 started with the College saying farewell to our Year 12 girls.

It was great to see that a number of them started their school life at SBC way back in Kindy and followed it all the way through to Year 12.  The College hosted a fantastic farewell for the girls after they demonstrated their dance moves and coordination while at the traditional boater throw. The Year 1 students formed a guard of honour and handed every Year 12 a flower as they made their way onto the Junior Oval for their final cohort photo and the day ended with their Graduation Mass and Dinner. The last send off was at the Presentation Night when the young ladies walked off the stage and out of the Concert Hall as the Graduates of 2018.

The 2019 College Leaders did a fantastic job being waitresses at the Graduation Dinner with the support and encouragement from the staff. The week after this they were sitting their final exams as Year 11s before commencing their year 12-course work. They have all been working hard over the last couple of weeks to make sure that they were ready for a busy period of study, revision and exams.  Some of the Year 11s are completing their CERT III in Education Support at primary schools in the area. From discussions with one of the young ladies, she is enjoying it but “I don’t like kids!” to which my response was “I would never have guessed!” as she is sitting on the mat drawing with the Kindy students.

The Year 7-10 students completed their Interdisciplinary Units (IDU) last week. This is where the girls get the opportunity to showcase things that interest them through a variety of ways including PowerPoints, skits, posters and even selling their product to a panel from “Shark Tank”. The IDU provided the girls with a meaningful connection between the learning areas with the support of expert groups of staff.

It was great to see all of the Art on display in the McAuley Building at the recent Student Art Exhibition which gave the students an opportunity to display their carefully finished and creative pieces.

The Year 7 and 8 girls will soon have their final socials with Mazenod. The Year 8s have a river cruise on November 14th and the Year 7s have a bush dance on November 21st. Letters and permission forms will be emailed out regarding these.
