Kyra Clayton, Sharing Higher Experiences With Our Year 10s
Kyra Clayton, graduated from St Brigid’s in 2022, and she recently won South Metropolitan TAFE’s VET Secondary Student of the Year Award . Kyra was one of seven recipients of the award out of a total of 24,000 TAFE students. Last week Kyra visited the College to provide some mentorship to our Year 10s. Kyra spoke about the various pathways to tertiary study, how she navigated them at St Brigid’s, the subject choices that worked for her as well as her personal epiphanies when it came to study styles and her abilities. “The dedication and perseverance of my teachers pushed me forward to be the best I can be, and they never let me give up or do anything less than my full potential. St Brigid’s allowed me to find new opportunities and ways to achieve my goals which were outside of the school’s set curriculum. This game me the drive to push myself to amazing opportunities and to do the things that have lead me to where I am today, “said Kyra. Today, Kyra is enrolled at ECU, where she is pursuing an Undergraduate Degree in Human Resource.

Career Expo 2022
Where did the Year 10 students go on Thursday, May 12? They went to the Careers Expo 2022 hosted at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. It was a marketplace where exhibitors plied their courses, services, inventions and promotional items to students, teachers and visitors. On entering the centre, we were mesmerised by UU, the Japanese robot programmed to dance to a disco tune that captured our interest. According to the student designers, two other objects that stood out from the rest of the exhibitions were the electric racing car designed by Edith Cowan University students, which reaches 110 km per hour. The Army installed a truck in full camouflage, which looked every bit the part. The atmosphere was electric as our students embraced the many opportunities to learn more about careers and training. Netball hoops were installed, and many students, including our girls, lined up to demonstrate their sporting prowess. The icing on the cake for some students was collecting the many promoting items from sunglasses, hats, bags, lollies and pens. It was a fantastic and educational event!

Virtual Live University Presentation
Our students in the secondary have been jumping on board to make use of the various Western Australian universities, moving to live virtual presentations, about various undergraduate courses being offered. These presentations have covered the process and procedure in applying for entrance, a typical university timetable, scholarships, clubs and facilities available to the students along with many other sports and recreational activities.   Additional brochures are available from the magazine racks between Rooms M1 and M2 for students to access.   We would like to thank Curtin, Edith Cowan and Notre Dame universities for their presentations. Our final presentation this term will be by The University of Western Australia on March 23, at 12.50pm. Your daughter/s should connect via the email link available to all Years 9 to 12 students. Please feel free to contact Almond Margherita on the above if you have any queries via email at almond.margherita@stbrigids.wa.edu.au
