Library
The St Brigid’s College Library is the hub of St Brigid’s College, bringing learning experiences for the community into a central space, accessible by students in both primary and secondary schools. This learning ‘heart’ of the College, continues to be much more than a space to browse your favourite work of fiction – but one where critical conversations are held, creativity flourishes, mentoring of students of all ages is evident and our community is united. Engagement and access to learning drive this space. The library’s physical space continues to be reinvented throughout each year. The floor space of the Library has allowed for inter-year level use and it is wonderful to witness a group of Senior students completing their studies at one table and at the next, a group of primary students working collaboratively on their next creation. Our collection has continued to grow across the year, as we have maintained a current and progressive range of books. The focus of the Library is on innovation, as the digital and print information worlds are melded together.
The Library contains a variety of areas:
- The College Helpdesk – offering support to students and staff to meet their varying technology needs
- The ‘library resources’ – an extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction books (both print and eBooks)
- Extensive lexile reader collection
- Robotics room
- Classrooms
- Study Hub for Senior Students
- Creative Spaces
- Collaborative spaces
- Location for many of our after school clubs
The collaboration between students and staff is our core focus in this space. The Library allows for opportunities for students a space to also escape from the ‘busyness’ of the school day where all are welcomed.
As of Term 1 in 2024, the library hours are now extended for Years 6 to 12 from 3:30pm to 5:00pm. Students are required to sign in on arrival and sign out at departure. The extended library access for your senior students provides them with an opportunity and a space to read, study and also collaborate with each other in a welcome environment.
Opening Hours
Monday – Friday: 8 am – 4 pm
Cafe
St Brigid’s College provides a Café service on its campus. The Café is available to all students from Kindergarten to Year 12. The Café opens at 7.30am each day for students who begin their day early at either sport training or music lessons/rehearsals. They can enjoy a light breakfast with different choices each day. Parents are also very welcome to come and grab a coffee after dropping their child/ren off. Our College Cafe as well as the College Boarding catering is managed by Chartwells.
All students’ lunches can be ordered online or purchased in person at the cafe.
Online orders can be made through the My Student Account (MSA) online portal. Directions on how to set up your account, add funds to your child’s student ID (Smartrider) and to make orders can be found in this step by step document here
Students in Kindergarten through to Year 12 (and/or their parents) can also order lunches in person at the Café before school starts, using cash, EFTPOS or student Smartrider cards.
If making an order in person for a student, the previous lunch bag order system will be replaced by a QR code where the parent can log in, make the order and pay online. The QR code will be found at the cafe entrance.
Lunches for Kindy to Year 6 will be delivered to their classroom in time for the lunch bell. Lunches for students in Years 7-12 can be collected from the Café. Secondary students may also access the Café before school, at Recess and at Lunch times.
Parents are encouraged to keep a menu at home to assist students in making a healthy choice for lunch and snacks. In general, students should not use lunch money to buy ‘treats’ at recess or lunchtime instead of a healthy sandwich or meal.
The Cafe Term 4 2024 week by week menu can be found here
The Cafe menu will be repeated every 4 weeks.
The Cafe price list can be found here
As the Cafe menu changes term by term, a new menu will be available to download prior to the new term beginning.
St Brigid’s College is an ‘Allergy Aware’ school and therefore the consumption of nuts and/or any nut product is discouraged during school time. Parents are asked to refrain from providing foods containing nuts to their children as there are students in attendance who suffer with severe nut allergies.
