Italian: Academic Extension Beyond The Classroom
During Term 1 our St Brigid’s College Year 3 –8 students were invited to participate in the Education Perfect Global Language Competition in Italian. The EP Languages Championship (EPLC) are a free event where students can compete at their own ability level. This competition is designed to help boost students’ personal learning journey, engage the students with curriculum-aligned content, and motivate them to compete on an international stage. They spent many hours outside of the classroom aiming for the highest possible score.  The competition created a lot of excitement amongst our students and drove a more in depth engagement in Italian. Students who reached medal status within our competition, showing great dedication in practicing the Italian language were invited to a Pizza Party on Tuesday 10th May during lunch time as a small acknowledgement of their achievement. It was great to have the cross section of both our primary and secondary students celebrating their achievements together!

Primary School Swim Team compete at CPSSA A Division Swimming Carnival
Recently, the Primary School Swim Team competed at the CPSSA A Division Swimming Carnival at HBF Stadium. Our swimmers competed against seven Catholic schools from around Perth including Mel Maria, Ursula Frayne, Holy Rosary, Our Lady of Grace, St Peter’s, St Columba’s and Infant Jesus. The Swim Team committed to many weeks of early morning training sessions to ready themselves for the event and, the swimmers were very excited to finally be competing at the event. Mel Maria was the Champion school for the day but our St Brigid’s College Junior School swimmers should be very proud of themselves. The girls placed 4th overall and the boys placed 7th. There were so many stand-out performances on the day, including the Year 5 and Year 6 girls who placed in almost every individual race and placed in all their relays. Isla, Emilia and Nate from Year 3 raced in the Year 4 races, placing in all of their individual races. And a special mention to Maisie, Natarsha, Tahlia, Nic, Jase and Daniel for competing in the open 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly races. Well done to all our swimmers!

At the beginning of the term, Junior Kindergarten to Grade 1 students bid goodbye to Grade 12 by presenting beautiful, colourful balloons. This gave early childhood children some insight into their future. Our Year 1 Green has made an exceptional assembly, planning what they want to be when they grow up. We want to congratulate all our students who participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition. Twas the weeks before St Brigid’s College Christmas production entitled “ Lights, Camel, Action”. When all through college, every creature is stirring and busy practising, and even the youngest leagues, the kindergarten is also working hard. The actors’ lines are being learnt, the dances are being practised, and the classes are singing. Hoping that those parents at the concert be swooned by our remarkable talent.   We are excited as the day gets closer.  This year’s Christmas concert has been revamped into a production with parents sitting on chairs and a stage. Prayer to Saint Cecilia O glorious St. Cecilia, virgin and martyr, you won the martyr’s crown without renouncing your love for Jesus, the delight of your soul. We ask that you help us to be faithful in our love for Jesus, that, in the communion of the saints, we may praise Him twice in our song of rejoicing for the Blood that He shed which gave us the grace to accomplish His will on earth. Amen.
